Warsaw Citadel museum opening hours

The Citadel is several independent museums, each with its own hours. Before you set out, check the day of the week — that is what usually decides what you will find open.

Monday is a day for caution

At most Citadel museums Monday is a closing day for the exhibitions. It is the most common reason visitors who travel from far away leave disappointed without checking the calendar.

If Monday is your only option, treat the visit as a walk across the grounds and the open-air sites of memory, and plan the indoor exhibitions for another day.

The park grounds stay open longer than the exhibitions

Entry to the Citadel grounds is free and possible over wider hours than the museums. So an early morning or late afternoon suits a calm walk, even when the exhibitions have already closed.

Indoor hours can be shorter off-season, and the last entry is usually earlier than closing time. Leave yourself a margin, especially at the large museums.

Plan around the hours, not the route

It is easiest to start with the museum that has the shortest hours, or the one you care about most, and leave the grounds and memorial sites for the flexible part of the day.

We keep current hours and free-admission days on the Museums and Getting there pages — check them before you leave.

Approximate hours of the individual museums

Roughly, the Polish History Museum is open Wednesday to Friday 10:00-18:00 and at weekends until 19:00 (closed Monday and Tuesday). The Polish Army Museum and the Museum of the Tenth Pavilion open Tuesday to Sunday, as does the Katyn Museum - all with Monday as their closing day.

The Polish Army Museum is usually open until 18:00, with last entry around 17:20, and the Tenth Pavilion a little shorter. These are approximate values that can change seasonally - confirm the current hours before you visit, especially if you plan to arrive late in the day.

Free-admission days

If you plan around saving money: the Polish History Museum is free on Fridays, the Polish Army Museum and the Tenth Pavilion on Thursdays, and the Katyn Museum is free all week. These days tend to be busier, so come early.

A walk across the grounds and the Moat and Slopes park are free at any time, which gives flexibility if you happen to arrive when the exhibitions are closed.
