What to see at the Citadel

Polish History Museum

The largest building on the grounds. Temporary exhibitions are on show until the permanent exhibition opens (planned for 2027).

Polish Army Museum

A modern home for arms and armour - from hussars to tanks and aircraft. Free entry on Thursdays.

Museum of the Tenth Pavilion

An authentic 19th-century political prison with original cells and corridors.

Katyn Museum

The only museum in the world devoted entirely to the Katyn massacre. Free entry.

Execution Gate

A site of executions of political prisoners and one of the most important memorial points.

Fosa i Stoki Park

A new recreational area with fountains, a playground and a rest zone - a good choice even without entering the museums.

How much time and where to start

Most visitors plan 3-4 hours for two museums and a walk, while a fuller programme can fill most of a day. On a first visit, pick one theme - political history (the Tenth Pavilion and the Execution Gate) or military history (the Polish Army Museum) - and build the rest around it.
